Wouldn't it be great if we had our own personal advisor available anytime we needed him/her?
We do!
This past Sunday, my pastor shared with us a passage from Isaiah 9. It is a passage we usually read or hear about around Christmas. The part that grabbed my attention was in verse 6. The bible calls Jesus the Wonderful Counselor. In my mind, I went to John 1:1. It says, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." We know that the Word with a capital W is the designation for Christ. Then verse 14 of John 1 says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us".
We have already established that we are studying God's word so we can know Christ.
If through the word, we know Christ, then doesn't it make sense that when Isaiah calls him the 'Wonderful Counselor' it implies that we receive counsel through His word?
There it is right in my hand, anytime day or night, night or day, MY counselor! How great is that!
If you are God's kid, (I like to say because it makes me feel young), there is an incredible resource available right at our fingertips!
On the side bar, you can see the name of a blog I have recently read titled, bring the rain. In one part of the story, Angie learns the possible fate of her unborn baby, she says she traded her baby books for scriptures! She saturated herself in God's Word. She went to the Wonderful Counselor! And the neatest thing is, she stayed there!
The bible says, "My sheep know my voice." How better for us to know His voice then to listen to Him speak. He speaks through His word.
If you want to know what He sounds like, read His word. His word reveals His heart!p.s. Our counselor is also the Holy Spirit that lives inside us. It is kind of like our conscious but better. But you have to know this, when we receive counsel from the Holy Spirit, it will ALWAYS be in agreement with scripture. ALWAYS! As great as the Holy Spirit is, we can't touch it or see it unlike the Bible-the whole counsel of God. Please don't mistake what I am saying. We need the Holy Spirit in our lives to move and speak! But the two always work in agreement. For example, the Holy Spirit, through your heart, will not suggest you do something that is in opposition to the whole counsel of God's word. Again, that's why it is so important to know his word so that we can discern correctly who we are listening to. I hope that makes sense.
I really didn't mean to get that deep (maybe confusing)! It is SO my desire not to lead any of you astray. I hope we are all looking up!
Blessings,
Bekita
